HD Media acquires four West Virginia newspapers from North Carolina-based Civitas Media
The newspapers sold are the Logan Banner, Williamson Daily News, Coal Valley News and The Pineville Independent Herald
The publisher of the The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington, West Virginia, HD Media, has reached an agreement to acquire four additional West Virginia newspapers from North Carolina-based Civitas Media. The newspapers are the five days a week Logan Banner and the Williamson Daily News, plus the weeklies the Coal Valley News and The Pineville Independent Herald.
In addition to the Herald-Dispatch, HD Media also publishes The Wayne County News, The Putnam Herald, The Lawrence Herald, Tri-State Weekly and River Cities Magazine.
“We are really excited to add these institutions that have combined over 250 years of news reporting,” said Doug Reynolds, managing partner of HD Media. “We are confident that we can improve audience engagement in our four new markets and provide local news and leadership that generations of readers have supported.”
In November of last year, Civitas Media announced that it had sold the LaGrange Daily News (Georgia) to an affiliate of Boone Newspapers Inc.
