Staff cuts at The Frederick News-Post follow acquisition by Ogden Newspapers
The Frederick News-Post has a new owner today, as privately owned Ogden Newspapers has taken over ownership from the Randall and Delaplaine families. The paper immediately announced that Ogden has implemented staff cuts.
“We are thrilled to be here,” the News-Post quoted Cameron Nutting, director of strategic operations and initiatives at Ogden Newspapers. “This is a market we have been looking to become a part of for a long time. It’s a beautiful area with a rich history and a great sense of identity.”
The News-Post has been owned by the Randall and Delaplaine families since its founding in 1883.
Ogden Newspapers, based in Wheeling, West Virginia, own paper in 14 states, and their properties include the Lawrence Journal World in Kansas, The Telegraph of Nashua, New Hampshire, and the Cape Coral Daily Breeze in Florida.
Nutting said the staff cuts, already announced to those effected, were necessary “in order for the company to have long-term financial sustainability.”
