Robert Feder to join Paddock Publications, owner of the Daily Herald, as media columnist
The Daily Herald will be the new home of Robert Feder, the Chicagoland media blogger. Feder was the television and radio columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times from 1980 until 2008, when he took a buyout. He later wrote for Time Out Chicago as media critic.
Feder broke the news of his new assignment on his website at RobertFeder.com.
Feder will continue to cover local media for the Paddock Publications newspapers, which serves suburban Chicago. (The Daily Herald is Chicagoland’s third largest daily, with a circulation of around 78K weekdays, 85K on Sunday.)
“Feder, who has been the preeminent Chicago area media reporter for nearly four decades, will continue to write his daily media blog at RobertFeder.com but now his work also will appear in the Daily Herald, dailyherald.com as well as the Daily Herald Business Ledger and dhbusinessledger.com,” Doug Ray, chairman, publisher and CEO of Paddock Publications and Scott Stone, president and chief operating officer said in a memo to staff.
A lifelong Chicagoan, Feder earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1978.
Since 2013, he has published a media blog at RobertFeder.com, with a side agreement with the Chicago Tribune that some of his material appear in the newspaper in print and online. That agreement ended last year.
