Ogden Newspapers in talks to buy The Frederick News-Post

The Maryland newspaper has been owned by the Randall Family since its founding in 1883

The Randall Family announced today that they are in talks to sell The Frederick News-Post to Ogden Newspapers, Inc., of Wheeling, WV. The paper, founded in 1883, has been owned continuously by the members of the Randall family.

The daily newspaper serves Frederick County, Maryland, and has a circulation of just above 30,000.

“Although these discussions are ongoing, we wanted to share this important and exciting news with employees and the community as soon as possible,” Randall said in the announcement. “Ogden Newspapers is a strong, family-owned company that believes in community journalism and has the resources and expertise to maintain and grow The News-Post as a vital Frederick institution.”

Ogden Newspapers owns properties in Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, with 34 being daily newspapers, 81 weeklies and shoppers.

Among its newspapers are the Cape Coral Daily Breeze in Florida, the Lawrence Journal World in Kansas, and the Wheeling Intelligencer of West Virginia.
