App Updates: NYT-VR adds push notifications, security update for Adobe Digital Editions
Also: A crash fix for The Washington Post Print Edition, the newspaper’s replica edition app; a series of bug fix updates for Google’s iOS apps; La Presse and Magzter bug fixes
It is incredibly warm outside for February in Chicago – over 60, if you can believe it. And the Senate just confirmed climate change skeptic Scott Pruitt. Yeah, yeah, I know – weather is not the same as climate… but still, 60 degrees.
So, that means it is time to play hooky, and hope that the administration, and any media companies, do not drop a bombshell late on Friday afternoon.
In the meantime, a fairly large number of media app updates were dropped today. Most were bug fix updates, so here are only a few of them:
Adobe Digital Editions: This app doesn’t see nearly as many updates as the software apps, and one would guess that it isn’t used as often as other eBook reading apps. This is a security update, which when you look at the list of updates you see is a common thing for this Adobe DRM app.
CNN MoneyStream: CNN’s business app has made some design changes, moving the Settings down to the main bottom navigation, ands the Stock Search to the top lefthand corner. Also, bug fixes.
Google: Updates for many of their apps including their main search app, Google Voice and Inbox – all minor bug fix updates.
History Today Magazine: Bug fixes.
La Presse+: Another bug fix update and one that I wouldn’t mention were it not for the fact that I mentioned this French-Canadian newspaper in this morning’s news brief.
Magzter: One of the new digital publishing platform updates today. Fixes a WhatsApp sharing bug.
The New Yorker Today: This is the magazine’s daily content app, as opposed to its digital edition. This update now allows readers to tap to zoom on images, adds quick actions on the iOS home screen, and fixs some bugs and makes some design changes.
NYT VR: The paper’s virtual reality app now offers push notifications.
Tapas – Books, Comics and Stories on the Go: Lots of bug fixes, including one regarding comments editing, and it fixes a problem with ads covering the screen on iPhone 4S and iPad (that had to be annoying).
The Washington Post Print Edition: This is the Post’s replica edition, which also offers reformatted versions of stories. Apparently the app has been crashing, so hence this update.
WordPress: “We thought we could make it a little clearer when our editor was publishing a post, or saving a draft, etc. Now the editors menu plainly states what will happen,” the app description states. Also, some minor fixes.
