NEW YORK, NY – January 6, 2017 — Thomas Publishing Company, LLC today announced that Tony Uphoff has joined the company as their new President and CEO. Thomas Publishing, a private, family owned company, combines over 100 years of history with powerful technology to connect buyers and suppliers across all industrial sectors. Thomas provides the platform, information, and services that help buyers and suppliers run their businesses more effectively. Uphoff succeeds Carl T. Holst-Knudsen, grandson of the founder, who assumes the role of Co-Chairman alongside his cousin and business partner, José E. Andrade.
“I am delighted that we have been able to attract such an eminently qualified executive as my successor. Tony brings impressive credentials in experience and expertise to the leadership of Thomas. All of us look forward with confident anticipation to his contribution to our goal of perpetuating and amplifying the services that this family business has for 120 years rendered to industrial enterprises now confronted with the opportunities and challenges of a digital information environment,” said Knudsen.
Uphoff was most recently CEO of Business.com where he led the turnaround of the company culminating in the successful sale in June of 2016. Before that he served as CEO of UBM TechWeb, President of the VNU Entertainment Media Group and Publisher of The Hollywood Reporter. Uphoff also served as the founding CEO of the Internet company Beliefnet. He was the President of CMP Media and Publisher of InformationWeek and spent several years serving in a range of management positions at Ziff-Davis Media.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the company,” said Uphoff. “I’m equally excited about the market opportunity ahead of us. Gartner predicts we are at the beginning of a massive market transition: The Digital Industrial Economy, built on the foundations and convergence of cloud computing, social collaboration, mobile technology and the Internet of Everything, by combining the physical world and the virtual. I believe Thomas Publishing is uniquely positioned to become the central platform serving the Digital Industrial Economy.”
Uphoff will be headquartered in the company’s New York City offices and will assume full responsibility for all business operations and the corporate services team effective immediately.
