NYT associate masthead editor, Lydia Polgreen, named editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post

The Huffington Post has a new editor-in-chief, Lydia Polgreen of The New York Times. Polgreen has been associate masthead editor and editorial director of NYT Global.

polgreen-ldPolgreen, now 41, earned her masters from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 2000, and went to work for The New York Times almost 15 years ago.

Polgreen has an extensive background as a foreign correspondent, serving at the NYT’s West African bureau chief, then its Johannesburg Bureau Chief, before coming Deputy International Editor in January of 2014. Her LinkedIn profile says she has been “architecting the company’s global expansion strategy” while in her current role.

Liz Heron had been filling the editor-in-chief role at the HuffPost since the departure of Arianna Huffington this summer, but she resigned in October. Huffington, meanwhile, recently launched her new effort, Thrive Global, just last week.
