Joseph Marks rejoins Atlantic Media’s Gov. Exec. Media Group as Sr. Correspondent at NextGov

Most recently, Marks worked as a senior reporter at Bloomberg BNA, covering intellectual property

Joe Marks will be returning to NextGov, part of Atlantic Media’s Government Executive Media Group, where he will be Senior Correspondent, covering cybersecurity. Marks had previously worked at NextGov as a reporter from 2011-2014 before leaving to join Politico where his position was Reporter, Cybersecurity Pro.

Marks was with Bloomberg most recently, where he was a senior reporter where he was covering developments in intellectual property from government, industry and the courts.

Government Executive Media Group’s Editor-in-Chief, Tom Shoop made the announcement in a staff memo:

I’m delighted to announce that we have hired a new senior correspondent to cover cybersecurity at Nextgov. And it’s someone many of you are already familiar with: Joe Marks.

From 2011 to 2014, Joe was a reporter at Nextgov, covering the Obama administration’s information technology initiatives and the federal IT world generally. He wrote everything from breaking news blog posts to daily stories to long-form magazine pieces — excelling at all of them. He also served as the face of many of our live and online events.

Joe left Nextgov for a post at Politico’s Cybersecurity Pro, where he honed his skills on the cyber beat. He then became a senior reporter at Bloomberg BNA, covering intellectual property.

Given Nextgov’s mission to report on how information technology is shaping the government of tomorrow, and the ever-growing importance of securing federal IT systems, the cybersecurity beat is a critical one for us. Joe will be covering the full range of federal cyber efforts, including the handling of recent high-profile breaches, White House and agency efforts to improve information security and policy developments on Capitol Hill.

Joe is an inquisitive, sharp, dogged reporter and graceful writer. We’re very lucky that he agreed to rejoin our ranks. He startsOct. 12. Please join me in giving him a warm welcome back.
