First TV ratings coming in for debate impressive

It was said that last night’s first presidential debate could be seen by up to 100 million viewers. The first numbers coming, while impressive, seem to suggest that the total audience may have been far smaller.

The four networks recorded a total 45.3 million viewers, with NBC with 16.6 million of those viewers, ABC with 12.5 million, CBS with 11 million and Fox 5.3 million.

Although this is far short of the 100 million mark, it does not include PBS, cable TV or online viewing, including Twitter.
