A rundown of app updates include a tricky iOS security update, an major update for the Apple Store app, and numerous Google iOS app updates
The digital newsstand app from Next Issue Media, renamed this year Texture, was updated to version 5.6.0.
With the update stories on the Highlights screen now feature larger text and optimized images. Also, when reading an article from any feed such as New & Noteworthy or Top Stories the reader can now just swipe right to continue on to the next article. Swipe left again to go back to the previous story.
The app description also reminders subscribers and those thinking of subscribing that the service has added some new titles including Women’s Wear Daily, Variety, Tennis, NewBeauty, Fit Pregnancy & Baby, Closer Weekly, and Simple & Delicious.
Another digital newsstand app that has been updated is Magzter, which issued a major update that brings the app up to version 6.8.
The platform appears to want to break out of its replica edition box and deliver more readable digital editions. To do this, it has introduced its own responsive solution. Here is the app description:
Magzter, the largest digital magazine store and newsstand in the world, introduces a game-changing new feature in its latest app update. And the text is resizable for maximum readability on any screen, under any conditions!
Magzter’s ezRead 2.0 articles also make it easy for the reader to follow the important keywords associated with each article to discover additional articles on the same topics – and Magzter has further enhanced the digital reading experience by including a fully interactive Table of Contents in our magazines, making it easier than ever to find the articles you want to read!
Google continued to update most of its iOS apps. Released in the past 24 hours has been updates for Google Calendar, Google Drive, Hangouts and Snapseed.
Twitter also issued a regularly scheduled bug fix update today, as well.
Apple released two important updates.
The first is for iOS 9.3.4., which is a security update.
I had difficulty installing it, however, as I kept getting a message saying that my iPhone was not eligible for the update. This sometimes happens when the owner has not updated their version of iTunes, but that was not the case with me. In fact, I couldn’t figure out what the problem was, so I called Apple.
We tried a number of things, and the customer support person would occasionally place me on hold to try and get other ideas from others in the department. While on hold I tried a few things myself, one of which did the trick: I did an over-the-air update rather than through iTunes.
The other update released today was for the Apple Store app. This one was a major one, and brings the app up to version 4/0. Here is the app description:
• Get recommendations and shop for new products based on what works with the Apple devices you already own.
• Manage your Apple account at a glance with the updated, easy-to-use Account tab.
