Vice Media acquires controlling stake in UK arts title GARAGE
Vice Media has acquired a controlling stake in the UK arts and culture magazine GARAGE. Founded in 2011 by Dasha Zhukova, who serves as the title’s editor, the magazine can now expand internationally, and build a video channel.
“GARAGE has always pursued relationships with the leading forces in art, design and fashion, and we are proud to announce our latest: a partnership with VICE Media,” the publisher announced on its website.
“VICE, with its expertise in digital and broadcast media, will allow us to continue evolving in the digital environment, push publishing protocol, and remain a groundbreaking publication in this rapidly changing media landscape.”
The editor of the magazine is the wife of Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, who also owns the Premier League football team Chelsea.
The magazine is currently only published twice a year, and has a relatively small readership (at least by US standards), so Vice will looking to expand its reach and capitalize on the publisher’s connections via editorial offices in NYC and London.
