Kargo names magazine veteran Edward Romaine as Chief Marketing Officer

Romaine joins the mobile brand advertising firm from Condé Nast, where he was Associate Publisher at GQ and before that W magazine

NEW YORK, NY – June 21, 2016Kargo, the leader in mobile brand advertising, announced today that it has appointed Edward Romaine to the role of Chief Marketing Officer. Romaine joins Kargo from Condé Nast, where he served as Associate Publisher, first for W magazine and most recently for GQ.

As Chief Marketing Officer, Romaine will lead not only Kargo’s existing marketing organization, but also will be responsible for managing the company’s sales and marketing success and research departments, the latter headed by recently appointed VP of Research AJ Mathew (formerly of Apple iAd).

Romaine brings to Kargo more than a decade of experience in sales and marketing for premium publishers, including Hearst, Bauer Media Group, Warner Music Group and Condé Nast. In his new role as Chief Marketing Officer, Romaine is responsible for expanding the company’s marketing and branding efforts globally across new markets—including the UK and other European markets—and bringing a new level of rigor around processes and procedures to Kargo’s marketing organization.

“Ed’s extensive experience working for some of the world’s top publishers is perfectly aligned with the publisher partners we work with at Kargo,” said President and COO Ryan McConville. “We’re very happy to bring Ed on board to lead and continue to build out a robust, global marketing organization capable of capitalizing on the brand recognition and share of voice Kargo has achieved over the past twelve months.”

Romaine commented on his appointment: “Coming from the publisher side of the business, I am well acquainted with the value of consumers that frequently engage with high quality editorial content—that’s what makes Kargo so unique in the marketplace and why I’m thrilled to be joining such an accomplished organization.”

According to Mary Meeker’s 2016 Internet Trends report, mobile advertising represents a $22 billion opportunity in the U.S. alone, with growth in consumer time spent with mobile continuing to outpace mobile ad spending. Kargo is the only mobile advertising technology company that helps top advertiser brands and media companies create high-end advertising experiences on mobile as media consumption continues to rise. By marrying breakthrough creative and data with the highest quality editorial environments, Kargo ensures that brands and publishers have a top tier partner to engage consumers on the mobile screen. Kargo’s award-winning ad campaigns reach 180 million mobile users across the United States.

Romaine is based out of Kargo’s New York City headquarters and reports directly to President & COO Ryan McConville. His portfolio includes marketing and events, creative services, corporate communications, research, sales and marketing strategy, and social media.
