Rand McNally launches first issue of a new special edition travel magazine, ‘Getaway’

The 50-page special edition magazine will be available at Walmart, Target, Staples,, and other retail outlets

SKOKIE, Ill. – May 11, 2016  — In celebration of the National Park Service centennial as well as its own 160th anniversary, Rand McNally has released the first issue of a new special edition travel magazine, Getaway.

With a mixture of budget-savvy and high-end travels, Getaway aims to inspire all-American vacations that are both realistic and extraordinary. Time-strapped travelers will appreciate the 50 pages of getaways that can happen on a weekend or in a week.


With milestone anniversaries for the National Parks Service and Rand McNally, we thought this was the perfect time to launch a special edition magazine celebrating all things U.S. travel,” said Stephen Fletcher, CEO of Rand McNally. “Getaway is a continuation of Rand McNally’s rich travel content tradition.”

Filled with large, gorgeous photographs as well as digestible content and the occasional illustrated map, the first issue of Getaway showcases parks, preserves, monuments, and memorials overseen by the National Park Service. The issue also includes a 14-page retrospective on the National Parks throughout the past 100 years.

Beyond the parks, Getaway features eight different vacation inspirations, including an antiquing adventure through the Hudson Valley, a foodie tour of Detroit, wine tasting through Sonoma, a trip to the underrated Kansas plains, as well as a jaunt to the famous Getaway is available at Walmart, Target, Staples,, and other fine retailers.
