GateHouse Media names Tom Clifford VP of the Company’s Center for News & Design
Clifford was most recently Executive Editor of the Montgomery Advertiser, and before that Executive News Director at The Post and Courier
AUSTIN, Texas – April 6, 2016 — GateHouse Media, LLC has hired newsroom veteran Tom Clifford to serve as Vice President of the Company’s Center for News & Design.
Clifford, most recently Executive Editor of the Montgomery Advertiser, will lead general operations for the Center, a major hub for GateHouse Media’s content operations. In this role, Clifford will guide product strategy and have responsibility for the editing and design of more than 210 of the Company’s publications, as well as a growing number of commercial clients.

As the executive editor of the Gannett-owned Montgomery Advertiser since 2013, Clifford’s work resulted in winning Best in State news operation for the first time in 60 years, Most Improved News Operation two years running, and being recognized by Gannett for In-Depth Public Service Reporting, Video/Multimedia Work and Innovative use of Digital Platforms.
Previously, Clifford was Executive News Director at the Post & Courier in Charleston, South Carolina and led digital news operations at Florida TODAY. He’s been a reporter and editor in North Carolina, New York City, Baltimore, Virginia and Mississippi.
Clifford received his B.A. in journalism from the University of North Carolina.
