Industry Dive acquires Social Media Today

The DC-based industry news publisher Industry Dive today announced that the company has acquired Social Media Today, a digital property founded by Robin Fray Carey who died late last year in a car crash.

Social Media Today“We have long been admirers of the extensive Social Media Today community and the vibrant dialogue and discussion it fosters,” said Sean Griffey, CEO of Industry Dive. “SMT has a reputation for helping marketing professionals use social media to make their work more relevant and meaningful, and we look forward to building on that tradition.”

Social Media Today was launched in 2007 when Carey founded Social Media Today, LLC, a suite of B2B communities. Carey launched the company after a career than included tenures with Fortune, Newsweek and BusinessWeek.

“Having worked with Robin and the SMT family team in the past, we were saddened by the loss of an industry pioneer,” Griffey said of Carey’s death in December. “Now we are honored to bear the torch of keeping this vibrant community going and continuing Robin’s legacy.”
