The Crescent-News (Defiance, Ohio) and shopper sold to Adams Publishing Group

Defiance Publishing Company, current publisher of The Crescent-News, employs 56 people, and will now become part of APG Media

Minneapolis, Minn. – December 9, 2015 — Adams Publishing Group, LLC has purchased the Defiance Publishing Company, LLC from Dix Communications according to John Cribb, Cribb, Greene & Cope who represented Dix Communications in the transaction.

Defiance Publishing Company employs 56 people and publishes The Crescent-News, a six-day a week daily newspaper (Sunday-Friday) with a distribution of 14,000 on weekdays and 15,300 on Sundays and Crescent–Extra, a free weekly shopper mailed to 9,200 households in the Defiance and Napoleon zip codes. The company also publishes the Northwest Ohio Homes Magazine and Northwest Ohio Auto Book. Their web site is viewed by more than 76,00 unique visitors each month.

Crescent-news-150Steve VanDemark, a 44-year employee of the company, will continue to serve as publisher.

Defiance Publishing will be part of APG Media of Ohio, headquartered in Athens, Ohio.

Adams Publishing Group, LLC, a family-owned media company headquartered in St. Louis Park, Minn., produces community newspapers, events, digital products and specialty magazines serving communities in Wyoming, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Maryland, Idaho, Michigan and Ohio.

The Adams family also owns radio stations, outdoor advertising companies and Camping World/Good Sam, a national distributor of recreational vehicles and camping-related products and services.

Dix Communications, previous owner of The Crescent-News, has owned and operated the newspaper and related products for the past 64 years, purchasing it from the Lee Tustison in 1951.

Dix Communications president, G. My father, Gordon, and my brother Steve (both deceased), and our families loved Defiance. Dix Communications was represented by Cribb, Greene & Cope, a newspaper brokerage, appraisal, and consulting firm with offices in Montana, Virginia and Missouri.
