Magazines Canada launches ‘Share Your Love of Magazines’ promotion based on mini-movie

The magazine organization is giving away six romantic getaways for two, winners drawn just before Valentine’s Day 2016

TORONTO, ON – November 3, 2015 — To compliment their existing promotional campaign, Share Your Love of Magazines, Magazines Canada is giving away six Canadian romantic destination prize packages.

In partnership with Roots Canada and six Canadian Tourism Bureaus and destination marketing organizations, including Kelowna, Edmonton, Regina, Ottawa, Charlottetown and Halifax, six getaways for two will be drawn just before Valentine’s Day 2016; packages include two- or three-nights accommodation, dinner, tickets to a local attraction and travel allowance and gift cards from Roots.

Entrants will be asked to submit a memorable Canadian magazine moment in 75 words when they enter online.
The promotion is supported by retail outlets across Canada, including Presse Commerce, Gateway Newsstands, Indigo and Chapters, and independent retailers.

Share Your Love of Magazines shows us how common interests in print can spark engagement between people,” says Barbara Bates, Executive Director of Circulation Marketing at Magazines Canada. “The contest encourages Canadians across the country to discover love at a magazine stand with a great Canadian magazine.”

Based on the mini-movie Anything Can Happen, the Share Your Love of Magazines campaign reveals how magazines can be the gateway to new relationships, inviting Canadians to buy a Canadian magazine and discover their new love, whether in print or through connections made with other magazine readers.

The viral video has received over 45,000 views and has been shown at TIFF Bell Lightbox Theatre, Hot Docs Bloor Cinema, and the Cabbagetown Short Film and Video Festival. Consumers can view the mini-movie at, where they can also access a store locator to find a retail outlet near them that carries Canadian magazines.

Consumers can also see the mini-movie on screens and in poster signage at select retailers across the country. The campaign is supported by over 120 Canadian magazines, including Maclean’s, Canadian Living, The Walrus, Reader’s Digest and Cottage Life, through print, online promotion and social media.

The video will also be playing in select independent Canadian theatres as part of the pre-show.

This project is made possible with the generous support of the Ontario Media Development Corporation, Presse Commerce, Indigo and Chapters, and Gateway Newsstands.

Contest prizing has been donated by Roots Canada, Tourism Kelowna, Edmonton Tourism, Regina Regional Opportunities Commission, Ottawa Tourism and Convention Authority, Inc., Discover Charlottetown and Destination Halifax.
