Time Inc. to shutter ‘All You’ after final December issue published
Launched in 2004, and exclusive to Walmart, the magazine tried to make it on its own, but a tough newsstand environment led to decision to close the title
Time Inc. announced to staff today that it will be shuttering its print magazine and website All You. The final issue will be December, and the website will stay on through the end of the year.
Launched in 2004 as a magazine found exclusively inside Walmart store locations, it originally featured a rate base of 500,000. In 2013 it expanded outside Walmart at the same time Hearst introduced Delish magazine inside Walmart.
“The brand introduced a very different business model and quickly proved itself with consumers and advertisers, ranking as the 9th highest-selling magazine on newsstands in the U.S. in 2011,” Evelyn Webster, Executive Vice President at Time Inc. said. “More recently, All You has faced a particularly difficult landscape in the shopper marketing space as well as endemic newsstand challenges.”
The NYPost said their source said that about 30 staff members will lose their jobs in the move, with the staff informed today in a staff meeting.
“We are taking immediate steps to place as many All You employees as possible within the company. Clare McHugh will remain in her role as Group Editor of Essence, Health, Sunset and This Old House. Greg Schumann continues as Group Publisher of Southern Living, Sunset and Coastal Living,” Webster said in the staff announcement.
Time Inc. announces 3rd quarter earnings on November 5.
