Trib Total Media sells eight newspapers to Sample Media Group affiliate West Penn Media
Newspaper publisher still looking for buyer for two other regional dailies in Western Pennsylvania
Pittsburgh, Penn. – October 16, 2015 — Trib Total Media announced today that an agreement has been reached to sell eight of its 77 Western Pennsylvania publications to West Penn Media, LLC. Trib Total Media announced its intention to sell several of its newspapers in late August.
Through an asset purchase agreement, West Penn Media, LLC will take ownership of two regional daily newspapers: the Leader Times in Kittanning and the Daily Courier in Connellsville; and six weekly publications: The Dispatch in Blairsville, The Mount Pleasant Journal in Mount Pleasant, The Independent-Observer in Scottdale, The Ligonier Echo in Ligonier, The Times-Sun in West Newton, and The Jeannette Spirit in Jeannette.
“Selling these papers was part of a larger strategic plan for the growth of Trib Total Media that includes a more focused newspaper footprint in Western Pennsylvania,” said Jennifer Bertetto, president and CEO of Trib Total Media. “We are pleased that a highly respected media company with strong Pennsylvania roots will be taking the helm. We are confident that the newspapers, and the communities they serve, will be in good hands.”
West Penn Media, LLC is an affiliate of Sample Media Group based in Huntingdon, PA the owner of over 50 publications, including 15 daily newspapers, in six states: Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Trib Total Media is still actively looking for buyers of two other regional dailies – The Valley Independent in Monessen and The Daily News in McKeesport.
