Bernie Szachara named President of GateHouse Media’s Eastern U.S. Publishing Operations
Before joining Gatehouse Media, Szachara had served as Executive Vice President of Strategy, Operations and IT at The Denver Post
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – October 7, 2015 — GateHouse Media, LLC announced today that Bernie Szachara, SVP Publishing, has been named President of the Company’s Eastern U.S. Publishing Operations. Szachara’s appointment is effective October 7, 2015.

He has distinguished himself, both with his ability to partner effectively with incoming management teams and by consistently meeting or exceeding divisional financial targets,” said Kirk Davis, CEO of GateHouse Media. “Bernie’s collaborative style, technology expertise and strong publishing acumen position him as the ideal leader for the East Coast division of GateHouse Media.”
Szachara brings significant executive level experience. Joining GateHouse Media in September 2013, he took on leadership of the newly acquired Local Media Group. With subsequent acquisitions of The Providence Journal and Halifax Media Group, Szachara assumed additional management responsibility, leading 47 daily newspapers, numerous weekly and niche publications, and associated digital products. In his new role, Szachara will also be responsible for GateHouse Media’s New England properties. Szachara will continue to lead centralized commercial print, third party distribution and production operations as the Company looks to grow these revenue streams and capabilities.
Prior to joining GateHouse Media, Szachara served as a consultant to a variety of national and international media organizations. He previously served as Executive Vice President of Strategy, Operations and IT at The Denver Post; he also spent 20 years with Gannett where he held a variety of circulation, IT and operations executive roles. Szachara received both his B.S. and M.B.A. from Rochester Institute of Technology.
