Yahoo launches two new ‘digital magazines’: Yahoo Real Estate and Yahoo Celebrity

The use of the word “magazine’ by those in the television and web publishing business drives many magazine publishing veterans crazy. But, of course, there is no copyright (is there?) on the word, and it can mean many different things.

Yahoo-RE-screenYahoo has been using the term for its website departments for a number of years. Today they announced two new “digital magazines”: Real Estate and Celebrity. Good luck finding them from the Yahoo home page, but maybe that will change soon.

The Yahoo Real Estate effort is being led by Jennifer Karmon who has now been with Yahoo more than five years. Karmon spent nine years at the Pioneer Press (St. Paul) before joining the Los Angeles Times as an editor on the National Copy Desk. She joined Yahoo in January of 2010.

Karmon has been editor of Yahoo Homes, and this new ‘magazine’ launch looks to be a redesign of that section of the Yahoo website. (A Google search will pull up the old section which you can look at when you ask for a cached version.)

Here is Yahoo’s announcement for their new properties:

NEW YORK, NY – September 30, 2015 — Yahoo Inc. today announced the launch of Yahoo Real Estate and Yahoo Celebrity, the newest category-specific Digital Magazines from the company. Yahoo Real Estate and Yahoo Celebrity are the latest additions to Yahoo’s portfolio of Digital Magazines, which are quickly outpacing industry competitors and include category leaders like Yahoo Movies, Yahoo Travel and Yahoo Parenting.*

Yahoo Real Estate is a highly-visual resource that guides users with personalized listings and original editorial content. Led by Editor Jennifer Karmon, Yahoo Real Estate features property transactions, breaking news, lifestyle rankings, original videos, and slideshows that help users navigate the housing market with ease.

Yahoo is adding to their collection of entertainment magazines with the launch of Yahoo Celebrity led by Josh Wolk, Executive Editor of Yahoo Entertainment, and Rebecca Detken, managing editor of Yahoo Celebrity. This new Digital Magazine joins Yahoo Movies, Yahoo TV, and Yahoo Music. We will continue to deliver the latest in entertainment news, reporting on everything from celebrity celebrations, scandals, and everything in between.
