Zach Ahrens named publisher of the Topeka Capital-Journal by Morris Publishing Group

The Morris Publishing Group announced that it has appointed Zach Ahrens as the new publisher of the Topeka Capital-Journal. Ahrens will start in October.

Ahrens, 34, is currently the publisher of the Log Cabin Democrat in Conway, Arkansas, appointed to the position in February of 2014. Before that he was in advertising at GateHouse Media Ohio. Between newspaper positions he was Executive Minister at Council Bluffs Church of Christ.

Ahrens succeeds Gregg Ireland who is retiring after 30 years in the newspaper industry. Ireland started his career on the finance side as an internal auditor, and was named publisher of the Topeka Capital-Journal in 2011.

“Gregg Ireland has been a great leader and publisher, rising up through our company ranks,” said William S. Morris III, chairman and CEO of Morris Communications Co. “He has made wonderful contributions to the Topeka community and to our company.”

Morris Publishing Group is based in Augusta, Georgia and own 11 daily newspapers including The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville, and The Augusta Chronicle.
