Mikki Halpin joins The Cut as deputy editorial director, Izzy Grinspan is joining as senior editor
Halpin was most recently editorial director at Refinery29, Grinspan joins after seven years at Racked
New York, NY – July 9, 2015 — The Cut editorial director Stella Bugbee announced today that Mikki Halpin is joining the site as deputy editorial director, and Izzy Grinspan is joining as senior editor, as New York magazine’s lifestyle and fashion site continues to staff up. In a new position, Halpin will work with Bugbee to grow the Cut, assigning original features and editing coverage across the range of topics covered by the site, including fashion, beauty, health and wellness, sex, advice, culture, politics and more. Grinspan will help define and edit the site’s fashion, beauty, and market features, with an emphasis on revamping fashion week coverage, original reporting, and lifestyle coverage. Halpin starts August 3rd and Grinspan July 23rd.
“With Mikki’s deep experience in the realm of women’s issues and her strong vision for style and intelligent writing, combined with Izzy’s razor sharp sense for fashion and culture news and knowledge of the industry, the Cut has a formidable team,” says Bugbee. “We are very excited to have them both.”
Halpin was most recently editorial director at Refinery29, where she introduced new coverage areas and brought on high-profile contributors; prior to that she spent four years at Glamour, in positions including editor-at-large and deputy editor, overseeing special projects in print and online, particularly pop culture and political coverage. Grinspan joins the Cut after seven years at Racked, where she was most recently executive editor. She joined the site as a New York editor in 2008 and oversaw its expansion from a network of local shopping blogs to a nationally-focused fashion site with an emphasis on original reporting.
The Cut averaged 6 million monthly unique visitors in the first half of 2015, up 47% from the same period a year ago (source: Adobe Analytics), and has 2.8 million social media followers across Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Instagram. The site recently added a health editor, a parenting columnist, and Rebecca Traister as writer-at-large, and Cathy Horyn joined as fashion critic-at-large earlier this year.
