Layoffs reported at Dow Jones brands PIB and Barrons
The union representing staff at several Dow Jones brands announced that there have been layoffs at several brands. The Independent Association of Publishers Employees (IAPE) said there had been 33 IAPE-represented positions cut at Professional Information Business, the division that includes Professional Information Business. There were also 11 positions eliminated from circulation.
The union also said that another “half-dozen” of its members at Barron’s News may also have been laid off, though the union said it is still awaiting formal notice of those layoffs from Dow Jones Human Resources.
Last November the WSJ reported that the company would cut between 50 and 60 positions tied to local-language news products in Germany and Turkey.
“It will come as no surprise that in order to do even more, we must do fewer things that are not core to our business so that we can move faster in pursuit of our goals,” Dow Jones Chief Executive William Lewis said at the time.
