GateHouse Media names Peter Newton as CEO of GateHouse Media Ventures

Since 2012, Newton has served as President of the Ventures unit and Propel Marketing, the company’s digital marketing services agency

QUINCY, Mass. – May 27, 2015 — GateHouse Media has named Peter Newton as Chief Executive Officer of GateHouse Media Ventures, Inc. This newly created position signifies the company’s commitment to developing a network of ventures that will fuel new revenue streams. Since 2012, Newton has served as President of the Ventures unit and Propel Marketing, the company’s digital marketing services agency.

“Under Peter’s leadership, Propel is poised for another year of exceptional growth,” said Kirk Davis, CEO of GateHouse Media. “In his expanded role, Peter will guide our broader venture strategy and develop and lead a growing portfolio of media and other strategic investments. I’m excited to work with Peter in his new role.”

Propel Marketing will continue to be part of the Ventures portfolio and will report to Newton. Additionally, BestRide, GateHouse’s national automotive platform, and AdUs, the company’s recently acquired digital agency in Las Vegas, will move into the Ventures unit. The company has stated that it is actively evaluating other investment opportunities.

Newton brings extensive leadership experience in both traditional media and the digital space, with a particular focus on SMB products and services. Prior to GateHouse, Newton’s experience included serving as VP of Sales at The Boston Globe, President of its niche employment business, BostonWorks; and SVP and GM of Monster’s small and medium business segment
