The Times has trouble with its now free NYT Now app update

A secpnd update quickly issued after NYT Now goes free, but users begin to complain of app crashes

The app bug bit The New York Times as one of its apps has been hit with crashing issues. NYT Now—Your Guide to the News went free on Monday but almost immediately users began to complain of crashes with the app.

NYTNow-5-12-updateSo, today, the developers have issued a second update to try and deal with the issues with the app.

What’s New in Version 2.0.1
– Fixes crashes
– Fixes an issue for some users where the splash screen was shown whenever the app was opened
– Fixes an issue with the app icon on iPhone 6 Plus
– Adds a new photo viewer
– Other bug fixes, visual tweaks and performance improvements

The newest reviews, though, written since the update, still complain of crashes. But it is uncertain if these users have actually installed the latest update, or are still reaacting to the update released on Monday. (My guess is that these users need to download the latest update, and are still reacting to the previous version.)

The NYT had been disappointed in the number of subscriptions sold for NYT Now, its lowest priced digital subscription product. So, the paper decided to offer the mobile app as a free product. At its relaunch it is being sponsored by Delta Airlines.
