BH Media Group picked up the Martinsville Bulletin and the Franklin News-Post

BH Media Group, a Berkshire Hathaway company, operates 71 newspapers and other titles located in 10 states

Omaha, Neb. – March 31, 2015 –BH Media Group announced Monday that it has acquired the Martinsville Bulletin and the Franklin News-Post in Rocky Mount from Haskell Newspapers.

The Martinsville Bulletin is a 12,250-circulation daily newspaper serving Martinsville, Collinsville and all of Henry County. The neighboring Franklin News-Post is a tri-weekly, 5,100-circulation newspaper that serves Rocky Mount and Franklin County.

Haskell Newspapers is privately owned by the Haskell family, which acquired the Martinsville Bulletin in 1948. BH Media Group, which owns The Roanoke Times, is the 11th-largest newspaper company in the country.

The Martinsville Bulletin, together with its website, martinsvillebulletin.com, is the leading provider of local news and information for Henry County and portions of neighboring Patrick County. It reaches more than 60 percent of the households in Martinsville alone with its 14,700-circulation Sunday paper. Additionally, the newspaper’s website has more than 300,000 page views monthly.

Terms of the transaction between Haskell Newspapers and BH Media were not disclosed. Dirks, Van Essen & Murray represented Haskell Newspapers in the transaction. BH Media Group, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway . BH Media Group now owns 30 daily newspapers and related weekly newspapers in Nebraska, Iowa, Texas, Oklahoma, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida and New Jersey.
