Susan Fraysse Russ joins magazine industry association MPA as senior vice president of communications

Russ was previously vice president, global communications and president, Reader’s Digest Foundation

Press Release:

New York, NY — March 9, 2015 — Susan Fraysse Russ has been named senior vice president, communications at MPA—The Association of Magazine Media, announced Mary G. Berner, MPA’s president and chief executive officer.

Russ joins MPA from Reader’s Digest Association, where she was vice president, global communications and president, Reader’s Digest Foundation. During her 15-year tenure at RDA, Russ was responsible for corporate communications, including public relations, earnings announcements and crisis communication plans and responses, product publicity for all brands, and internal communications for the global company and its operating divisions. As president of the Reader’s Digest Foundation, Russ redefined its mission and created the innovative national R.E.A.D. Together literacy program. Prior to her tenure at RDA, she served as ChaseMellon Shareholder Services’ vice president, director of corporate communications and as national advertising and communications manager at The Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York. Russ is the recipient of multiple awards for excellence in communications, including Gold and Silver Quill Awards from the International Association of Business Communicators.

“Susan is joining MPA at a time when we have a very compelling—and counterintuitive—story to tell,” said Berner. “Six months into the launch of the Magazine Media 360° Brand Audience Report, contrary to the inaccurate doom and gloom narrative about magazine media that had previously dominated coverage of our industry, we have data which strongly confirms that consumer demand for magazine media content is actually growing, to the tune of 10% YOY on average every month. As a seasoned communications and events executive who has a deep understanding of the issues and opportunities facing not just magazine media, but all media, Susan is the perfect person to expand our efforts to tell the true story of our industry.”

“I’m excited to join MPA during this transformative time,” said Russ. “Coming from an MPA member company, I know firsthand how important it is to work together to dispel myths about magazine media as an industry. I am looking forward to advocating on behalf of all our members—loudly and strongly—as we move forward in an omni-channel content world.”
