Jim Warren to join the Pointer Institute as chief media correspondent

The non-profit school for journalism, the Poynter Institute, announced today that James Warren will join its digital team as chief media correspondent. He will begin his new assignment in April.

Warren is currently the Washington Bureau Chief for the New York Daily News and before was editor at large for The Daily Beast.

Many here in the Midwest remember Warren as the managing editor and Washington bureau chief of the Chicago Tribune. After leaving the Tribune Company Warren founded the Chicago News Cooperative.

“Jim Warren will add personality and perspective to our already outstanding digital team,” said Poynter President Tim Franklin in the organization’s online announcement. “He brings with him a reporting background and contacts in three of the nation’s largest media markets — Washington, Chicago and New York — and he’s worked across media platforms in print, television and digital. Jim is someone who understands how the media business works, and he has the ability to bring original, unique insight to our coverage of the industry.”

Warren still lives here in Chicago and he will be able to continue his Sunday column for the Daily News.
