Mike Wilson, formerly of FiveThirtyEight, now the new editor of The Dallas Morning News
Prior to joining FiveThirtyEight, Wilson had been the managing editor at the Tampa Bay Times
The Dallas Morning News has named a new editor, Mike Wilson, who was formerly with ESPN’s FiveThirtyEight. Wilson will start his new gig on February 16.
Wilson, before he joined the website founded and run by Nate Silver, was the managing editor of the Tampa Bay Times. Wilson had been with the Times for 18 years before leaving just a year ago.
“I’m thrilled about the opportunity Nate has given me at FiveThirtyEight, which I believe will be a must-read site for anyone interested in politics, sports and culture,” Wilson said at the time. “I hope to bring to FiveThirtyEight the same ambition and high standards that are so deeply ingrained in the Tampa Bay Times. I’ll miss it here.”
“I was looking for someone with experiences leading a traditional newsroom’s transition to the digital environment, and also someone who had the curiosity and courage to step out and lead a pure-play digital site that published important journalism,” News publisher and chief executive Jim Moroney said in the hiring announcement.
