The newsroom restructuring effort by Gannett, dubbed “Newsroom of the Future,” will be led by Joel Christopher at Gannett Wisconsin Media.
Christopher has been the digital editor for Gannett Wisconsin Media since March 2013, and prior to that for Post-Crescent Media beginning in 2006. Christopher will report to Pamela Henson, president of Gannett Wisconsin Media. Henson is also president and publisher of Post-Crescent Media in Appleton.
Meanwhile, Capital New York reports that 11 editorial positions have been cut at Gannett’s The Journal News, which serves Rockland, Westchester and Putnam counties in New York state.
Gannett made its newsroom staff interview for newly defined positions and 11 journalists were not offered positions at the paper. “All of our news team interviewed for newly defined positions and all but 11 employees were offered a position,” Janet Hasson, publisher of The Journal News told Capital New York.
Gannett continues to plan for is spin off of its publishing properties from its broadcast properties, with the company’s digital assets going to the broadcast side.
