143-year-old family-owned New Hampshire newspaper sells to neighboring owner

The Daily Democrat sold to Seacoast Media Group, employees to be offered positions with new owner

The owner of the Daily Democrat in Dover, New Hampshire said they would be selling to owners of the Portsmouth Herald, Seacoast Media Group.

“Today, my sister Cathy and I are announcing that we will be selling the assets of Geo. J. Foster & Co., Inc. and Eastern Marketing Services to Seacoast Media Group,” Patty Foster, president and publisher of the Daily Democrat wrote to employees.

“In Seacoast Media Group and New Media, we believe we have found a successor who will work to preserve and continue the relationships with both our employees and our community that we in the Foster family have proudly cultivated and served for over 143 years. With our support, they will continue to publish under the Foster’s Daily Democrat banner, hopefully for a long time.”

The new owner has promised that all employees will be offered positions.
