Media app updates: Condé Nast issues app updates to deal with issue download bugs; Mag+ updates its Reviewer app

The magazine publisher Condé Nast has been struggling with its Apple Newsstand apps since the release of iOS 8 and today issued updates for many of its titles including WIRED Magazine,, The New Yorker and Vanity Fair.

WIRED-Nov2014The problem is that readers can not download their issues, complaining that they can log into their accounts, but that the downloads do not occur.

Like many magazine apps, readers have a tendency to write negative reviews over app issues, rather than comment on the digital editions themselves. If a reader can not actually access the issue they are rightly upset.

Since the release of iOS 8, publishers have reported problems with their apps, especially those currently using the Adobe DPS. Adobe issued an update on October 20, and users should track the DPS Bug Fix Release Notes page regularly to view known issues and latest updates.

Mag+ today updated its Mag+ Reviewer app. The app issued to preview digital editions created using the plug-in based digital publishing platform.

What’s New in Version 5.2.1

  • HTML blocks will now use WKWebViews and Nitro JavaScript engine when possible (on iOS 8)
  • Fix to prevent the table of contents popup from being cutoff
  • Other fixes and improvements

Earlier this week the Canadian publisher Transcontinental updated its Newsstand app for Canadian Living and The Hockey News, their first iOS 8 related updates. Both apps use the same platform and were having issue download problems prior to the update.
