Video news aggregation start-up, WatchUp, to have own channel via the Amazon Fire TV Stick
The video news aggregation start-up, WatchUp, with apps currently available for both iOS and Android, will soon have its own TV app exclusive to the Amazon Fire TV Stick, the company announced today. Amazon’s competitor to Google’s Chromecast, is set to launch in mid-November.
“Watching the news is complicated enough so keeping our app simple for people to use was incredibly important,” said Adriano Farano, co-founder and chief executive officer of Watchup. “We want to give people the latest global news from multiple sources that impacts their lives, without all the fluff, That¹s what we are bringing to the Amazon streaming audience the power of global news information to the living room.”
The company outlined its feature set:
- Modern minimalist user interface. Designed for larger television screens, Watchup modified its app to be more interactive in lean back mode. This translates into less text and bigger buttons that are easier to navigate using the remote.
- Curated news from multiple sources. Unlike other news apps that just feature one point of view, Watchup provides 360 degree views on news stories, pulling from multiple media sources including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Fox News, Fox Business, Sky News, Associated Press, PBS NewsHour, Univision, among others.
- Watch news when you want to. Watchup allows you to watch videos at your convenience, as well as, play continuously. You can also set reminders to play your personalized newscast, any time, day or night.
