Feminist Times says it will end publishing after this week, says crowdfunding efforts fell short

The editor of Feminist Times, Charlotte Raven, announced today that it would be calling it quits after this week. The UK website said that its crowdfundng effort had fallen short.

banner“Having already crowdfunded and made it clear that we need more members to survive, we believe the boldest and best move is to put the project on ice exactly 12 months since our naming ceremony; to celebrate 9 months of incredible agenda-setting content from exceptionally talented writers; and to acknowledge that we achieved what many others haven’t: we made a feminist online magazine that competed with the mainstream and we did it while keeping our principles intact,” the website announced.

The website will publish one more week’s worth of content, with writers contributing their material without being paid. Contributors include Gloria de Piero, Annie Sprinkle, Camille Paglia, John Stoltenberg, Laurie Penny, Roz Kaveney, and Helen Morales.

The website will stay online so readers can access the content – and, one assumes, to make it easier to resurrect should sufficient funding is found.
