News Corp’s newspaper insert coupons will be now offered for the first time through Find&Save’s web and app products
The newspaper industry backed Wanderful Media announced today that it would now incorporate the coupons found inside News America Marketing’s SmartSource Sunday magazine into its Find&Save web and mobile shopping solution.
News America Marketing is part of News Corp. and offers CPGs advertising through its in-store products such as SmartSource Shelftalk and SmartSource Floortalk, as well as to at home consumers through its SmartSource Magazine free-standing Sunday newspaper inserts. Wanderful Media is a Los Gatos-based start-up backed by Advance Digital, A. H. Belo Corporation, Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., Cox Media Group, The E. W. Scripps Company, Gannett Co., Inc., GateHouse Media, Inc., Graham Holdings Co., Hearst Corporation, Lee Enterprises, MediaNews Group and The McClatchy Company.
“SmartSource historically has been an important distribution mechanism for retailers and consumer product companies to get to local consumers – and doing that through newspaper distribution was a big part of their strategy for how they would deliver an audience,” Ben T. Smith, IV, CEO, Wanderful Media, told TNM yesterday.
“For our consumers, that content is something they expected to find in the newspaper but is something we wanted to bring to them …. as they move into the digital world when they don’t walkways have a physical newspaper sitting on their doorstep,” Smith said. “This is content that is not on the web, and certainly has not ended up on mobile devices with location awareness as part of that.”
Find&Save delivers shopping offers to consumers through its newspaper partner websites, running the shopping sections found online, as well as through its mobile and tablet apps. The company has both an iPhone app, called Find&Save – Shopping and Deals, and an iPad app called Find&Save for iPad, which deliver coupon offers from retailers. The apps use geolocation services to deliver relevant offers, and have other features such as the ability to create shopping lists and social media sharing of offers.
Find&Save’s offerings are made up of what of the inserts a reader would find in their newspaper, as well as curated offerings found elsewhere online. Now, with the partnership with NewsAmerica Marketing, Find&Save will incorporate a huge number of additional coupons through SmartSource Magazine The Digital Edition.
“Our goals have always been to help consumers connect with our clients and to help them save money in the process,” said Marty Garofalo, President, News America Marketing, in the partnership announcement. “The launch of SmartSource Magazine The Digital Edition is our latest adaptation to changes in consumer activity. The print version is still going strong, but with more consumers looking online for both their news and savings, The Digital Edition on Find&Save provides our clients a synergistic opportunity to reach even more shoppers in geographic areas that are already in their market lists.”
“Bringing you the Easter related circular content when you are in the parking lot across the street from Walgreens is better than just sending you a circular with the newspaper,” Smith today TNM recently.
About a month a half ago, Wanderful Media was able to announce that it had secured $14.5 in additional funding from its newspaper investors. The new round of funding brought the total investment in the company to over $50 million since the company’s launch in 2012.
