Adobe Digital Publishing Suite to drop support for InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 with its September release

This might be something that many Adobe DPS users already know, but I think TNM should pass it along anyways since it will be important news for many readers: Adobe announced on Tuesday that with its release of version 32 (v32) in September it will drop support for InDesign CS5 and CS5.5. The move means users of the old softwarewill no longer be able to create new folio files, or upload articles to the Folio Producer Service in DPS.

In other words, if you have considered a move to Creative Cloud, but held back you really should consider making the move over the summer.

mds-graphicsblog-indesign-logo“When DPS v32 ships, Adobe will no longer deliver the Folio Producer tools installer and the Folio Builder panel installer that work with InDesign CS5 and CS5.5,” Adobe informed users. “If you are currently running InDesign CS5 or CS5.5 you will not be able to create folios or upload articles to the Folio Producer Service using the Folio Builder panel as it will no longer function in these older versions of InDesign.”

You will still be able to use your software, of course, but you or someone you know will have to open and save those documents in InDesign CS6 or Creative Cloud to publish through the Folio Producer Service.

There are a bunch of variables, so if you have any questions you should refer to the Adobe PDF released Tuesday.
