Apple’s head of communications to retire, says Re/code
The head of press relations at Apple is retiring – and in keeping with the way Apple communicates with the media, only Re/code knows about it, and no press release was issued.
Katie Cotton, VP of worldwide corporate communications at Apple, will be leaving to spend more time with her children, after 18 years at the Cupertino company.
Cotton’s job, as far as one can tell, was to make sure news was not generated at Apple – and when there was news to make sure that a small, select group of journalists got the information (AllThingsD, John Gruber). The strategy has worked for Apple over the past decade as the company has grown to be the largest in the country, and droves of customers line up for the latest new iPhone.
