Apple releases iOS 7.1.1: Touch ID improvements, keyboard fixes

Apple releases a minor update to its iOS software today – iOS 7.1.1 fixes a few bugs and attempts to improve its Touch ID which has been a disappointment for most users.

iOS711The update can be downloaded over the air or via an iTunes sync.

The update addresses three areas:

  • Further improvements to Touch ID fingerprint recognition
  • Fixes a bug that could impact keyboard responsiveness
  • Fixes an issue when using Bluetooth keyboards with VoiceOver enabled

I have turned off Touch ID because I find that shortly after enabling the feature its accuracy degrades to the point where using it is an annoyance. Maybe, just maybe this update will improve the features performance, one of the few new features added to iOS 7 when launched.

Word of warning: don’t download this update on your computer while attempting to work, it basically will kill your Mac. My confidence in the Apple software team degrades every day, with every update. Jony Ive is doing something I thought impossible: making Windows look like a good alternative.
