Adobe releases its own Year in Review app that showcases Adobe DPS

The software and digital publishing platform company Adobe Systems has released a digital publication app of its own into the Apple App Store, Adobe Year in Review 2013. The app provides the company’s vision around Creative Cloud and Adobe Marketing Cloud, while providing a showcase for its own Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS).

Adobe-iPad-coverMuch like the app from Future plc which serves as both an annual report and a showcase for FutureFolio, this app can be seen as both a financial statement, as well as an example of what other publishers can do with a digital magazine app.

“As CFO, most of the documents I oversee aren’t all that exciting – 10-K’s and 10-Q’s are important, but they aren’t bedtime reading,” Mark Garrett, executive vice president and CFO, wrote on the company’s own blog.

“With this app, produced using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS), I’m finally able to tap some of the cool technology we provide to our customers to tell our own business story.”

There is plenty of nice animation built into the layouts (though it should be pointed out that older iPads will struggle to render these properly). Especially nice is the “create with impact” animation.

Some of the material inside the app is housed outside it, which limits the file size of the app, which weighs in at 189 MB in size once installed.

As you would expect, the app is free of charge to download, and review for their own inspiration for designing their digital publication using the Adobe DPS.
