RBI acquires Innovata LLC, provider of airline schedules data, maps and tools

The B2B division of Reed Elsevier, Reed Business Information (RBI), has acquired Innovata LLC, a provider of airline schedules data, maps and tools for the global air travel market. Innovata will now join RBI’s aerospace information and data services business, Flightglobal. Many years ago Reed divested Official Airline Guides, which was part of the the Cahners Travel Group.

“Innovata and Flightglobal are two extremely strong and well-established brands in the aviation information sector,” Melanie Robson, Head of Flightglobal said. “The bringing together of our highly complementary data assets will accelerate the growth of Flightglobal’s data businesses and enable us to find new solutions for customers by combining both companies’ data and analytical properties. Flightglobal brings huge audience reach, marketing power and multi-media expertise to the Innovata business.”

RBI has made a few acquisitions over the past three years including in 2011 taking a majority ownership of CBI China, a petrochemical and energy information service, and also that year acquiring Ascend, a provider of online fleet data and valuations to the aviation industry. This reversed a trend of divestitures that reduced the size of the company’s B2B holdings tremendously.

In 2012, RBI sold Variety to Penske Media. This followed the closing or selling off of much of its qualified circulation U.S. magazines assets in 2009 and 2010. In January of this year the company sold BuyerZone to TechMedia Network, Inc., saying the “decision to sell the business reflects RBI’s increasing focus on paid content models and data services.”
