Tim Griggs named new Publisher and COO of The Texas Tribune

Prior to joining the Texas Tribune, Griggs worked for The New York Times Co. for 15 years, where he was most recently Executive Director, Cross-Platform Monetization

AUSTIN, Texas – March 13, 2014 -– The Texas Tribune, a nationally recognized nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization, has announced the appointment of Tim Griggs to serve as Publisher and COO.

As Publisher and COO, Griggs will lead all business-side operations and departments for the media property. His primary objectives will be to focus on growth and efficiency — making the Tribune better and smarter, while generating revenue that will continue to support and further the Texas Tribune’s innovative economic model that enables statewide reporting, data/analysis and events.

Griggs’ appointment is designed to help sustain and expand on the mission the Tribune has built. He will report to CEO and Editor in Chief CEO Evan Smith.

Prior to joining the Texas Tribune, Griggs worked for The New York Times Company for 15 years, where he held several posts. He most recently served as executive director of cross-platform monetization. In that position, Griggs was responsible for revenue-generating products across The Times’s digital platforms (web, tablet, smartphone, email, games and video) and led four product teams: paid products, advertising products, email, and e-commerce. His previous tenure at The Times includes director of paid products, where he helped lead its successful digital subscription business, as well as director of strategic planning. Griggs spent the bulk of his career as a journalist, including serving as executive editor at the Wilmington (N.C.) Star-News.

Tim is a graduate of Virginia Tech, holds a certificate of business administration from UNC-Wilmington, was a 2010 Fellow at the Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program at Columbia, and in 2003 was named one of Presstime Magazine’s “20 Under 40” industry achievers.
