Disney Interactive to cut about 700 position, close offices in Chicago and elsewhere
Despite the success last year of Disney Infinity, Disney Interactive said today that it would be cutting about 700 positions and closing offices in Chicago, News Jersey, Colorado, South Korea and India.
“As a result of this restructuring, we have undergone a reduction in workforce. These actions were difficult but necessary given our long-term strategy focused on sustainable profitability and innovation,” the company said in a statement.
Disney Infinity may have driven some revenue and income last year, but the division has been losing money and struggling with its games strategy, which will now be less tied to social media sites and more mobile-first.
With the loss of jobs, Disney will most likely focus more on third party license deals, something Disney has been very success at it the past.
