Beats Music acquires music marketing company Topspin
Two Santa Monica-based companies will combine with the acquisition of music marketing firm Topspin with Beats Music. The CEO of Beats Music also just happens to be the former CEO of Topspin.
The more well-known half of the acquisition, Beats Music, is a subscription-based online music streaming service owned by Beats Electronics. Topspin Media provides direct-to-consumer retail and marketing software for musicians and filmmakers. Their former CEO Ian Rogers left the company to join Beats Music in January of last year.
“When I left Topspin for Beats just over a year ago, I was inspired by Beats Music’s vision to merge the artist tools with a streaming music service,” Rogers wrote on the Beats Music blog. I wrote then, This is the next step in the evolution of the way fans find the music they love and connect directly with the artists who make it.”
“We’re committed to establishing Beats Music as a conduit for the artist-fan relationship, a platform where artists have a voice, and a provider of useful data and analytics on how fans interact with artists and their music. This acquisition puts our money where our mouth is,” Rogers said.
Topspin, in its blog announcement, said that the move will not involve any immediate change for their customers. “We will continue to operate both ArtistLink and the Topspin Platform without any interruption to either products’ service. As Beats Music integrates ArtistLink into their service, both Topspin and Beats Music will look for a strategic partner to operate and run the popular email and commerce services in the Topspin Platform,” the blog post said.
