Christopher Mayer to leave post as publisher of The Boston Globe

The Boston Globe announced this afternoon that Christopher Mayer will step down as publisher of The Boston Globe, a post he has held since 2010.

Mayer-featureThe paper was recently purchased from The New York Times Company by Boston Red Sox owner John Henry. Henry has made clear that he will be bringing on his own management team.

“New ownership brings the opportunity of greater investment in the business and a new way to look at tackling the challenges that face us,” Mayer wrote in an e-mail, according to the Globe.

Mayer, before being named publisher, was Senior Vice President of Circulation and Operations. He succeeded P. Steven Ainsley, who held the post for three years.

Mayer joined the Globe in 1984 and was considered an insider when named publisher in late 2009.
