Canadian Media Guild says 10,000 jobs lost over the past five years
In a sobering report issued earlier this week, the Canadian Media Guild said that approximately 10,000 media jobs have been lost in Canada. The report (PDF) detailed the layoffs and cutbacks month by month from November 2008 through August 2013.
“We are confident these numbers reflect the troubling reality of job cuts in our sector over the past five years, and we encourage further and ongoing research in this area,” said the report.
Unfortunately, the bad news just keeps coming. Last week it was learned that The Calgary Sun, a Postmedia Network newspaper would end their in-house production department, outsourcing print production to an outside firm.
