The Washington Post Company reports earnings, last report while still newspaper owners
The last earnings report that The Washington Post Company will issue that will include its once flagship newspaper issued this morning.
The most important section of the report, naturally, involved “discontinued operations” which The Washington Post, Express, The Gazette Newspapers, Southern Maryland Newspapers, Fairfax County Times and El Tiempo Latino and related websites. The report stresses that Slate magazine, TheRoot.com and Foreign Policy remain part of the remaining company.
Across its divisions the company reported mixed results. Kaplan, the education division, reported revenue down 1 percent, while cable television was up 1 percent. Television broadcasting took a hit, with revenue down 18 percent, the result of a quarter that is compared to the same quarter last year when a Presidential election was taking place.
