Human Rights Campaign launches new Newsstand app

Equality Magazine is HRC’s first tablet app initiative powered by Adobe DPS

Jenkintown, PA (October 10, 2013) — MEI announced today that the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has released its first tablet publication, Equality Magazine, built by Nervous Pixel using the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite™ (DPS). Equality Magazine is a quarterly publication that covers lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender news, political matters and pop culture, and is the nation’s largest-circulation LGBT magazine. MEI’s creative team, Nervous Pixel, transformed the print edition of Equality Magazine into an enhanced digital publication for the tablet with interactive elements like scrollable content, pinch and zoom and in-app links to additional content and information.Bonnier app

human-rights-campaign-ipad-appAs a leader in advancing LGBT equality, the app launch of Equality Magazine coincides with the U.S. Supreme Court‘s ruling that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional, granting equal treatment to same-sex, legally-married couples under federal law, as well as the Court’s ruling returning marriage equality to California. The Winter 2013 issue of Equality Magazine illustrates the implications of such a ruling with articles, infographics and art, and is available for download in the App Store.

“The mission of HRC’s flagship publication Equality Magazine is to report and share developments that affect our members and supporters, as well as people of all backgrounds and beliefs,” said Anastasia Khoo, HRC’s marketing director who oversees Equality Magazine. “MEI’s Nervous Pixel team transformed our existing print content into an engaging, interactive experience. Now that we’re on the iPad, we’ll be able to reach more viewers.”

Following this latest app release of Equality Magazine, Nervous Pixel will be producing two forthcoming DPS issues with even more interactivity.
