Hearst Newspapers update their Newsstand apps to add iOS 7 compatibility

The Hearst Newspaper chain updated its four Newsstand tablet editions today to make them iOS 7 compatible. The tablet editions remain unchanged in overall design. The apps require iOS 5 or later to work properly.

The apps have decent ratings from their readers, with star ratings across the board (usually readers give apps either a 1-star or 5-star rating). The biggest complaint about the apps are slow download speeds and crashes.

The apps have received a series of updates over the summer to deal with bug issues. In June they added progressive downloading to speed up the start time on the apps. Users can go into the settings menu to turn on the app’s ability to search for new data, and can check “WiFi” if they want it to only function when the user has a WiFi connection.
