Distimo report shows large percentage gains for Google Play, but Apple still dominates paid app space

The latest report from Distimo on Top Global Apps shows that the Google Play store is recording very healthy increases in revenue from paid apps, but Apple still maintains a solid lead in the market.

Distimo-paid-app-smGoogle Play revenue grew 67 percent in the first half of 2013, while Apple’s revenue growth slowed to 15 percent – but then again, Apple is in the dominate position and remains so.

The report also shows that the U.S. market is dominated by Apple’s iPhone and iPad when it comes to paid apps, but that both Japan and South Korea are where Android performs better – in fact Android dominates the South Korean market as you’d expect.

Disney, followed by Electronic Arts, Warner Bros and WhatsApp Inc, are the top publishers of paid apps in the Apple App Store. In Google Play Disney also leads but is followed by ShiftKey, Gameloft and TeslaCoil Software.
